About Will.

Will Davenport is a composer/producer/songwriter/creator of electro-acoustic music. As a graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Electronic Music and Composition, Will is most passionate about collaborating, experimenting, crossing genre, exploring the materiality of sound, the limits of song, and the possible intersections between electronic and acoustic music.

Will has been described as "one of the most inventive young compositional voices” (Barbara De Biasi) and has produced music for various noteworthy commissioners such as The Barbican (Barbican Film Festival, Sound Unbound, Singing Our Lives), The National Trust (Waddesdon Manor’s Imaginarium 2017 & Winter Fair 2018) and The BBC (BBC Proms 2013 Create a Soundtrack Competition). During his time at Guildhall, Will worked with The Illuminated River Foundation to write two pieces commemorating the new lighting installations across London’s Thames Bridges designed by Leo Villareal. Will was also commissioned by Brookfield Properties to write a piece entitled Shimmer, for LSO Violist Anna Bastow, as part of a long-standing immersive augmented-reality installation at London Wall, called hARmony

Independently, Will has also released a vast collection of music.  He composed two pieces for The Brompton String Quartet and electronics, entitled Bounce, Crash and Shake, Scratch, as part of the online 360 event ESCAPE. As organiser of the event, Will also commissioned music from 5 other burgeoning composers, and is passionate about opening up eclectic spaces for new music. At the end of 2021 he set himself the challenge of becoming more prolific in his releasing of music, and launched the Sketchbook project, where he would write and release a new musical ‘Sketch’ every week. Prior to this, Will’s first release was his EP Four Landscapes, a collection of music which he produced during his time studying electronic music.

Will recently released his latest Ep I Can’t Get Out of Bed, Pt. 1, which is a chaotic and cathartic journey through a sleepless night. It lays bare vast swathes of personal shame, trauma, guilt, fantasy and ecstasy with frank directness. The EP was written for an odd concoction of instrumentation, mobile phones vibrating in pianos, recorder, flute, organ, electric guitar and saxophones - to name a few of the instruments. Will premiered the Ep at Vogue Fabrics Dalston on Saturday the 2nd of April, and was joined by Asha Parkinson, Christopher Anthony, Asher Fynn and Wednesday’s child for the Launcher party.

Will is also passionate about LGBTQI+ activism in the music industry, and is the chair and founder of the Ivors Academy’s LGBTQI+ Council.
